Kendall Evans
I undertook a Geography BSc at the University of Durham and graduated in 2006. I then embarked on the GDL followed immediately by the LPC at BPP Waterloo and Holborn respectively. I began my training contract with Edwards Angell Palmer and Dodge in September 2008.
Edwards Angell Palmer and Dodge was an obvious choice for me. It offered the right mixture of high profile contentious work coupled with a strong team spirit in a firm where you are regarded as not just a number but a name. I was attracted by the impressive training on offer at Edwards Angell Palmer and Dodge and indeed they are recognised as a top trainer throughout the legal profession.
When I arrived for my interview, although I was nervous, I was instantly put at ease by the friendly nature of every member of the firm I came into contact with. This was right from the trainees I met up to the Partner in Charge of trainees and the London Managing Partner. I was interviewed by two partners and, although some of the questions were difficult and tested my ability to think on my feet, the atmosphere was one of banter and debate rather than intimidation. By the time one of the partners and I had begun talking about my passion for kitesurfing and his for surfing, I knew that I would fit in.
I am currently sitting in a Commercial Litigation (Public International Law) seat where I am assisting in some fascinating work recovering assets for the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The work I have done so far is interesting and varied, ranging from drafting letters to research projects.
Edwards Angell Palmer and Dodge has got it right. They only take 8 trainees a year meaning we are valued by the firm and nothing is overlooked within our training. The firm has clients of the highest calibre and, although the work is tough, it is extremely rewarding. This is all achieved in a relaxed but focused environment where every person knows they are part of a supportive team.
